Simple, Relaxed Scottish Newborn Photography

We’d like natural photographs of our baby. CAN YOU HELP?

You’ve come to the right place. I’m Carole-Ann, owner of Harper Scott Photo. I’m passionate about creating newborn photography that’s minimalist in style and fuss free in approach. A newborn session with Harper Scott Photo is about capturing striking photographs in a simple way, using beautiful, natural light.

For newborn photography and film that's all about a simple and delicate approach. No props and natural light only. For more: https://www.harperscottphoto.com/families-portfolio

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

As a mum to three little people, I have first-hand experience of how incredible (and tough) those early days are. They’re also spectacularly hazy! It’s no surprise they end up becoming quite a blur. It stands to reason that family photography and films are the heart of my business. It’s a joy to capture some of that newborny-ness which I myself look back on with fondness and yes, longing…

WHAT? NO PROPS?

That’s right. I prefer to concentrate on the details that actually mean something to you. I’ll arrive with my camera, a couple of batteries and two lenses. No outfits. If you can have a couple of throws or blankets to hand, that’s useful. The small things are the big things: we needn’t add to that. Your home environment is the backdrop.

YOU OFFER FILMS TOO?

I absolutely do. They’re so unique and encapsulate much of what flies past in those early days. They last around 2 minutes and can be added onto your photo session for £275.

WHAT IF OUR BABY IS A BIT GRUMPY?

Babies are unpredictable. I’m used to that. Thankfully, being in your surroundings will go a long way to relax you all. It’s really no big deal if they’re fractious. I’ve been there myself and understand the importance of patience. We’ll stay calm and work to the rhythms of your baby in order to get that great footage we all want.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Firstly, make sure you’re wearing something comfortable. Thereafter, natural fibres and soft tones are preferable. Strong colours can cast an unpleasant glow onto the skin of newborns so it’s best to stick with gentle colours. Greys and charcoals are fine and dandy too. Avoid needless detail: jewellery, branded clothing and buttons.

WHEN + HOW LONG?

Monday mornings ideally. Sessions are typically 1.5-2.5 hours in length.

ANY OTHER ADVICE?

Just be yourselves. If you want to play music, play music. If you want the television to be on, have it on. Make yourselves a coffee. Make me a coffee! Scented candles or oil burners are always a helpful way to create a gentle sense of space. Be sure your home is warm enough to keep your wee one cosy for when we strip them down.

SOUNDS GREAT. WHEN SHOULD WE BOOK?

No need. Birth is unpredictable. It’s best to make contact with me when you decide you love my style and approach. At that point we can pencil in a rough date. You’re not held to any dates and can revise depending on how your birth goes.

WHEN DO WE PAY?

The full balance of £445 is due after I’ve photographed your baby and sent you a couple of preview photos.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER OUR SESSION?

You’ll get your photos within 14 days of our shoot; films are delivered within 28 days of our shoot. Your photos will be delivered via a digital gallery. You gain and full printing rights too.
