Unusual Wedding Venues in Scotland | Drumtochty Castle, Auchenblae

WHY CHOOSE DRUMTOCHTY CASTLE FOR YOUR WEDDING?

Full disclosure. I love it here. For the past few years, I’ve shot two weddings a year at Drumtochty Castle. It’s a venue that offers something different every time I visit. It’s superbly well run and is brilliant in all seasons. Nestled in 350 acres of wild woodland glen, Drumtochty Estate is a stunning and opulent 19th century Scottish castle. With capacity for up to 120 guests, Drumtochty can accommodate 95 guests in the estate accommodation. You get the entire castle to yourself for the weekend so it’s easy to roll the celebrations out over a couple of days.

1. Ceremony Options

Drumtochty Castle gives you several awesome options for your wedding ceremony. One possibility is a reception room within the castle. Some couples opt to take things outdoors. Really, you have your choice of the castle grounds as well as on the edge of the loch. Perhaps the most popular choice is St. Palladius church located a short distance from the castle gates.

2. Maximilist

The aesthetic of Drumtochty is regal and grand. It’s no shrinking violet. Drumtochty layers traditional with contemporary and the visuals are quite spectacular. The interiors are impressive - adorned with ancient portraits, antique furniture; it’s a visual feast. Drumtochty has two fabulous reception rooms. The Gold Room is decorated in soft gold and ivory tones, antique furniture and white baby grand piano. It interconnects into the Blue Room which is decorated in royal blue, antique furniture and chandeliers. If it all sounds a bit crazy, it is…but it works fabulously.

3. The Ballroom

Drumtochty’s Ballroom is what a ballroom should be like. It’s a grand hall decorated in soft, neutral tones reflective of the estate and features a beautifully ornate ceiling, fireplace and dramatic neo-gothic windows with views over the estate. It’s well sized. There’s plenty of room for up to 120 guests without feeling too overwhelming. There’s a sense of intimacy created within the confines of what’s a rather elaborate space.
